Agco Power Showcases New Core Engine Series For Diesel, HVO & Future Alternative Fuels At Bauma
Agco Power has announced its new Core family of diesel engines for off-road machinery. The manufacturer is showing the first model, the Core75, at the Bauma fair in Munich, starting today and running through 30 October. Like the previous generation of Agco Power diesel motors, such as those powering Fendt, Valtra, and Massey Ferguson tractors, Core engines are compatible with renewable HVO fuels and the most stringent emissions standards. However, the company designed the Core engine series for future compatibility with alternative fuels.
“Alternative fuels of the future such as hydrogen, ethanol, methanol, and biogas, as well as electric hybrid applications set new demands for an engine,” says Agco Power CEO Juha Tervala. “The Core engine platform is designed to enable the use of alternative fuels with further development.”
High Torque At Low RPM
The Core75 engine is a 7.5-litre, 299-horsepower (223-kilowatt) six-cylinder engineered for low-speed torque, fuel economy, and reliability. The robust motor has a simplified design with relatively fewer parts to enhance its durability and ease of service.
“Agco Power Core75 delivers 1,450 newton-metres of torque, the highest in its power class,” says Agco Power Director of Engineering Kari Aaltonen. “The engine is designed to offer maximal torque at 1,300 rpm instead of the more typical 1,500 rpm. This low-speed concept enables the best fuel economy in the market today in its power class. The new engine is also compatible with the renewable HVO fuels, enabling up to 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.”
The Core75 meets EU Stage V emissions standards using a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), a diesel particulate filter (DPF), and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) without the need for EGR (exhaust gas recirculation). Serial production of the new engine in the Linnavuori, Finland, factory will commence by the end of 2022.
The Fendt 700
The Core75 will first be installed in the new seventh-generation Fendt 700 Vario tractor series, which will also make an appearance at Bauma. The five models in the series, namely the 720, 722, 724, 726, and 728 Vario models, span a power spectrum of 203 to 283 HP (147 to 206 kW). A 728 Vario DP variation can temporarily increase maximum power to 303 HP (226 kW) with the Fendt DynamicPerformance feature.
The new Fendt 700 Vario series offers high manoeuvrability and traction for tillage, forestry, construction, and winter road work. “The engine’s innovative design results in additional benefits, such as improved turning radius and higher ground clearance,” says Walter Wagner, Fendt’s vice president and managing director of Research and Development and Purchase.
