Claas Wins 7 ASABE AE50 Awards For Tractor, Combine & Other Farm Machine Innovations
Claas won seven of the 50 AE50 awards announced recently by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ASABE) for 2024. The company won for innovations and technologies implemented in its Xerion 12 Series tractors, Trion 740 combine, Variant variable-chamber round balers, and Disco mower conditioners.
The Xerion 12 Series
Introduced last summer, the 4-model Xerion 12 Series includes the Xerion 12.650 Terra Trac, named the Tractor of the Year at Agritechnica 2023 in November. Claas invested years of work and thousands of hours of testing into the tractors, which are available with the manufacturer’s new shock-absorbing Terra Trac undercarriage.
Innovations include a low-engine-speed 2.0 concept for the tractors’ 15.6-litre Mercedes-Benz engine, rated for up to 653 horsepower (480 kilowatts) of maximum power and up to 3,100 newton-metres (2,287 pounds-foot) of maximum torque at 1,300 rpm. The tractors have an impressive hydraulic capacity of up to 538 L (142 gallons) per minute and a roomy 4-point suspended cab providing outstanding visibility and 21% more legroom.
Cemos Enhances Efficiency
Claas says Cemos is the market’s first and only self-learning driver assistance and process optimisation system for a tractor and its attachments. The dialogue-based system enhances productivity and efficiency in field tasks and improves fuel economy by helping optimise ballasting, tyre pressure, and engine and transmission management for specific implements and field conditions.
The Trion 740 Outpunches Its Weight
The Cemos Automatic system is one of several stellar features of the Trion 740, a single-rotor combine introduced in 2021 that was Claas’ first combine for the North American market since the twin-rotor Lexion in 1995. Claas says the midsize Trion 740 has class-leading capacity and includes technologies and efficiencies typical of larger combines, such as hydraulic rotor covers and a 3D cleaning system.
Smart Density = High Bale Density
The award-winning Smart Density system found on Claas Variant round balers helps decrease feed loss and promotes better feed conversion by controlling the balers’ two tensioning arms independently of one another, thus ensuring optimum bale density no matter the crop type, crop conditions, or driving speed.
The Variant’s award-winning net wrapping technology includes innovations such as adjustable net wrap pre-stretching and a patented tying system with a braking system that works independently of the size of the roll.
Disco Mowers’ Distinctive Design
Claas’ remaining awards came for the double-roller drive concept of the roller conditioner in its Disco 3600 FRC front mower and for the Disco 9700 RC Auto Swather triple-mower, which has a conditioner and merger belts designed for large forage volumes and heavy crops.
The technical highlight of the double-roller drive is a scissor gear that runs in an oil bath, resulting in high crop throughout with maximum reliability, says Claas. The 9700 RC Auto Swather boasts new side-shifting technology and other capabilities that enable it to handle high-tonnage cereal crops and delicate legumes.
The AE50 Awards
AE50 awards honour machines, systems, components, software, and services ranking highest in innovation, engineering advancement, and impact for the markets they serve. Winners will receive their awards at the Agricultural Equipment Technology Conference (AETC 2024) taking place 11 to 14 February in Louisville, Kentucky.
